  • FRAME: The "layout" adopted for the frame of the new Multistrada 950 consists of a front trellis with large diameter tubes, two cast side subframes enclosed by a rear support element made of fiber loaded engineering plastic for maximum torsional rigidity. The Multistrada 950 features minimum ground clearance of 183.5 mm. The 1,594 mm wheelbase ensures optimal load balance, which consists of the rider and the side panniers, where available, with ensuing benefits in terms of dynamic performance.
  • TIRES AND RIMS: The new Multistrada 950 is fitted with aluminum alloy rims, which were redesigned after the previous model and are approximately 500 g lighter in total. The sizes are 3.0” x 19’’ on the front and 4.5” x 17” on the rear, with Pirelli Scorpio Trail II tires in sizes 120/70 ZR19 on the front and 170/60 ZR17 on the rear. This tyre was designed for the most demanding riders; its strengths include durability, consistency of performance throughout its life cycle and top performance on wet surfaces.

Engine

  • TESTASTRETTA 11°: The engine on the new Multistrada 950 is a 937 cm³ twin cylinder Testastretta 11° with Desmodromic valve. Euro 4 compliant (in Countries where the Euro 4 regulation is applicable), it features four valves per cylinder, a liquid cooling system and bore and stroke values of 94 mm and 67.5 mm respectively. This engine can deliver a maximum power of 113 hp at 9,000 rpm, with maximum torque of 96 Nm at 7,750 rpm; the compression ratio is 12.6:1. The new Multistrada 950 engine breathes thanks to cylindrical-section throttle bodies with a diameter of 53 mm and a state of the art full Ride-by-Wire system. Maintenance intervals are expected to be every 15,000 km (or 12 months), while valve play must be checked every 30,000 km.
  • HYDRAULIC CLUTCH: The new Multistrada 950 is equipped with a wet clutch with self-servo action and anti-hop function. Its new hydraulic control system with adjustable lever help reduce lever effort. Because of this, the new Multistrada 950 is easier on the gears, especially on city streets where acceleration and downshifting are more frequent.
  • EXHAUST SYSTEM: The exhaust system layout consists of two primary manifolds converging directly into the 2-chamber muffler that acts as a union, houses the catalytic converter and ends with a single side tailpipe, which was redesigned and made smaller in order to optimize performance and noise output.

Safety

  • BOSCH ABS CORNERING: The new Multistrada 950 is equipped with the Brembo braking system fitted with the ABS 9.1ME Cornering device, an integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) together with Traction Control. ABS Cornering exploits Bosch's 6 axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) platform to maximise balancing of the braking power delivered to the front and rear wheels even in critical situations and with the motorcycle in a leaning position. By interacting with the Riding Modes, the system is able to provide the ideal solution for every situation and riding condition. Thanks to an ABS control processor, the new Multistrada 950 boasts a front and rear Electronic Combined Braking System, optimised for Urban and Touring Riding Modes, but with reduced action in Sport mode, a context where preference is given to non-fully automated control. The combined braking system increases braking stability by using four pressure gauges, to best distribute the braking power between the front and rear wheels. Conceived to improve rear tyre control in abrupt braking situations, the "lift-up prevention" function of the ABS system is fully enabled in Urban and Touring Riding Modes, while it is deactivated for use in Sport and Enduro mode. The ABS function is also available for front brakes only, a feature that Multistrada exploits in the Enduro Riding Mode in order to allow rear drifts when braking on bumpy ground. The system integrates perfectly with the Ducati Riding Modes and interacts on three different levels. Level 1 offers the highest performance for off-road use, eliminating rear lift-up detection and allowing the drift during braking with the ABS applied to the front only. Level 2 ensures the balance between the front and rear without the rear wheel lift-up detection when riding in Sport mode, but with the cornering feature enabled and calibrated for a sporting character riding style, level 3 allows optimisation of the combined braking action in the Touring and Urban modes with rear wheel lift-up detection and the cornering feature enabled and calibrated for ultimate safety.
  • DUCATI TRACTION CONTROL (DTC): The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) on the new Multistrada 950 is able to detect and subsequently control the sliding of the rear wheel, helping to increase the bike's performance and safety. The system allows to choose among 8 different profiles, each of which has been calibrated to offer a tolerance to rear slippage commensurate with progressive levels of riding ability.
  • VEHICLE HOLD CONTROL (VHC): The ABS that is installed on the new Multistrada 950 is equipped with the Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) system. When activated, the system keeps the vehicle still by activating the rear brake (and automatically deactivates after a few seconds). This feature is activated when the motorcycle is at a standstill with the side stand retracted, and the rider applies high pressure to the front brake lever or the rear brake pedal.
